The Importance of Sanitation!
Please be aware of the salon you are being serviced at and don't be afraid to ask questions! You are paying for a service and the answers should be to your satisfaction!
Ask how the pedicure baths are cleaned. They should be cleaned between each client by first being scrubbed out with a disinfecting cleaner. If it is a whirlpool tub, it should then be rinsed and filled with bleach or FDA approved disinfectant and hot water. This flushes out contaminants in the whirlpool system. Ask to see the type of germicide used.
Because of the recent increase in VRE and MRSA, you should have your own nail brush upon which you scrub under your fingernails and wash your hands for at least 15 seconds with an antibacterial soap prior to your service. VRE is an antibiotic resistant bacteria that is on doorknobs, shopping carts, menus, etc. Use a paper towel when opening doors, using phones, etc. It can only be detected by testing from your physician. There are no symptoms. Suggest to your Nail Stylist to have everyone do this prior to being serviced or consider finding one that will. Feel free to refer your Nail Stylist to my website. I would love to share my experience with others! We all can learn form each other.
I provide each of my clients with their own bag to reduce the chance of cross-contamination. All implements should be cleaned with a hospital grade disinfectant between each client.
If the client has a cold I recommend they cancel with at least a 24 hour notice or wear a mask and I also don't mind spraying Lysol. It is disrespectful to others and can make a negative impact on the salon.
